For years, people were scared to take advantage of cremation services thanks to the many myths surrounding cremation. Let’s debunk some of the most common examples.
cremation services in Independence, MO

For a long time, a lot of people refused to even consider cremation services in Independence, MO because of the many misconceptions about it. People thought all kinds of crazy things with regards to cremation simply because they weren’t educated about it. These days, most people are so much more familiar with cremation. But there are still some prevalent myths that many people believe. Let’s debunk some of the most common myths about cremation services.

Myth #1: Cremation involves the use of fire.

For years and years, many people were under the impression that a person’s body was placed into a fire during an Independence, MO cremation. But as we all now know, this is not the way it’s done! Cremation actually involves the use of heat and not fire. It’s the heat that cremates a person’s body and reduces it down to cremated remains. You won’t have to worry about fire being used at all if you choose to be cremated.

Myth #2: Cremation can result in people’s remains getting mixed up.

This is another myth that concerned people when it came to cremation for many years. They thought that when a person’s body was cremated, there was a chance their remains could end up getting mixed up with someone else’s remains. They believed this could result in a family taking home both their loved one’s remains and some remains from someone else. But this is impossible. Crematories are only allowed to cremate one body at a time, and there is a very strict clean-up process that must be followed once everything is all done.

Myth #3: Cremation isn’t allowed by most religions.

Once upon a time, most of the world’s major religions were against the idea of people being cremated. Today, there are still some religions, like Islam and Judaism, that are still against cremation. But many others, like Catholicism and most branches of Christianity, have come around to cremation. Some of them have even started to encourage people to consider asking to be cremated.

Myth #4: Cremation doesn’t allow families to hold funerals.

If you have a loved one who specifically asked to be cremated, it might make you sad to think that you won’t be able to have a funeral for them. But just because a person has chosen to be cremated does not mean you can’t honor them with a funeral prior to their cremation. You can also hold a memorial service or celebration of life ceremony after their cremation if you would prefer to go in that direction.

Cremation myths used to prevent people from wanting to get cremated. But these days, more people are open to cremation than ever before. Is cremation starting to sound like a good option to you?
